Uprising 02:10
Should you be the one to wash away my sins? Should you be the one to tell me how to begin? No matter where I hide from you, you get under my skin You take away my voice today and sock me under the chin Don’t make me believe in something I see Don’t make me believe in you It’s easy to breathe, I cannot believe your inhumanity A tragedy of humility, your truth- a parody Don’t make me believe your lunacy It’s getting harder to breathe Should I be the one to take away your toys Should I be the one to expose your moral decay No matter where you hide from me, I’ll get under your skin I’ll take away your lies today and show the world where you’ve been I do not believe in what you believe, your truth- insanity It’s easy to breath, I cannot believe your inhumanity A tragedy of humility, your truth- a parody I do not believe your lunacy I’m starting to breathe
2.
Ascension 03:13
I’ll climb my way back to the stars I’ll find a way to spend my life and live on Mars No way to escape you, I’ll find a path beyond the Moon I’ll trace a line into the sky Another planetfall, another vacant dune And still I face it all, a planetary tomb And when the streets turn into dust Another kingdom falls, decaying into rust I need to escape you, and find a path beyond the Moon You’ll trace a line across the sky And still I travel on, I’ll cross the border soon To see our neighbors fall behind a lifeless moon Another planetfall, another vacant dune And still I face it all, a planetary tomb The stars behind are nothing new The stars ahead is where we’ll rendezvous I got away from you, I found a path beyond the Moon I am the light across the sky
3.
What’s this under my foot? I don’t know if I should move Is it another minefield? A broken face-shield? I don’t know Take back your shiny presents, I don’t need them anymore The fire that burns inside me can consume you when I roar I don’t know what I should do and I don’t care anymore The one time you believed in me is the one time I behaved I never needed your amnesty I never wanted to be saved Do I know just what I have, I don’t believe I do Do I know just who you are and I can see right through The storm that’s rising right beside you blinds you from your doom The cities fall beneath my gaze and swallow up your tomb I can save you with a glance but I don’t think I will
4.
Subterranean 03:00
“Welcome to my parlor,” said the fighter to the spy “Make yourself at home, my dear, and I’ll sing you a lullaby” Shattered window panes shade the pictures of your soul As the captain of your armies cedes control “There’s a chance you succeed where so many have tried and failed If you make it through this maze without being impaled!” Fallen branches pave the pathways through your soul Can you wake up before you stumble and make yourself whole Sunlight glitters through the trees as you take your midnight stroll Other memories surge ahead as your past takes its toll
5.
Fire & Fog 03:52
When I look into the sky, the Sun and the Moon seem to mystify The turn of the globe and the wind of the clock take me out of my element And the change I’ve undergone steels me through the night into the coming dawn And the fire that leads me through the fog takes a turn as the world ends Another passage fades through my travelogue Should I fall or should I transcend? As the sand falls though the broken glass I hide away my memories Write them down, burn them up, and try to make them last Should I dance, should I sing, or maybe take up poetry? And the dreams that brought me here won’t make it through tomorrow Every stand that I made so far tumbles like dominos And the fire that leads me through the fog takes a turn as the world ends Another passage fades through my travelogue Should I fall or should I transcend? When I look up at the same sky I make a wish on a falling star It isn’t much, but it gets me through today and into tomorrow And I write these songs for you, and maybe you’ll follow And the dreams that brought me here won’t make it through tomorrow Every stand that I made so far tumbles like dominos And the fire that leads me through the fog takes a turn as the world ends Another passage fades through my travelogue Should I fall or should I transcend?
6.
Backwards 03:24
Ahead of the curve, and yet behind the lines What can you do to change the times Everywhere you go, you suffer vertigo And still you’d rather undermine Who do you think you are when you talk to me this way? I don’t think you understand what it means to change There goes another memory blown Built on a solid cornerstone The moss on your brain is overgrown The changes you want you will postpone Where do you think you are when you see the world you made? How many people paid the price you think you paid? And how do we wake you from this empty charade? You think when you stand up, the masses stand beside you But that isn’t why they’re waiting there You better start running You never stood a chance You’re not where you think you are, this isn’t the world you made Too many people have paid the price for your tirade And now we’re going to strip you of your empty charade
7.
Another winter paradise, another broken throne I made it through the snow and ice, and through the outer zones To steal you back from a maniac with delusions of grandeur He send his hounds to the battlegrounds in a wild overture And he knows just what he’ll find when he stalks the frozen fields It’s the end of humankind, because he doesn’t know how to yield Another vacant throne, another compromise A land of blood and snow, beneath a barren sky We steal the day, it’s the only way to find our way back home The land decays as it turns to grey, and still we have to roam Still they haunt and track us down in the fading hours of night And we’ll stop them on the ice, a trap to stay the fight The heat will fail in the dimming light as we become the cursed And now we know just what we’ll find as we walk this frozen Earth As we walk this frozen Earth As we walk the frozen Earth
8.
There is another side to what you believe in And you need to come outside of the box that you live in You think the world is sane, and it caused you to falter It’s the truth you will enslave as you fall when you ignore Everything that stands right in front of you Everyone who understand what you are Don’t turn away as the world crashes into you You can’t hide all the burns that the truth left behind The pain of your lies invades your mind Try to hide your face as the world turns you into a fool There was another time when the truth seemed to matter And you left if all behind so that you could do better But no matter where you turn, you succumb to the laughter Because you chose to live a lie Such an amateur Don’t turn away as the world crashes into you You can’t hide all the burns that the truth left behind The pain of your lies invades your mind Try to hide your face as the world turns you into a fool As the world turns you into a fool
9.
A desert road that leads to everywhere An empty signpost bodes the state of your affairs Another Bennie lifts your apogee The dirty knack betrays your history Neon lights betray the coming dawn The night denies the change you’ve undergone The time to delta has been laid to rest You hide your gomi with the deepest intent Display your RAM in hopes to lay some scratch You’re paranoid because you moved to fast Neon lights betray the coming dawn The night denies the change you’ve undergone The street can take away the path ahead The institution feeds on the trumpkin dead The garden gate has left you undermined You see the towers but fail to see their design The face has left you casting for the divine A HOVA blanks the world you left behind Neon lights betray the coming dawn The night denies the change you’ve undergone
10.
Believe in me and I can change the day The path is free and I can lead the way And should you save me from ending up afraid I’ll tell you a story of why I am this way A broken charade that turned my soul to dust That morning, we paid a price that was unjust The Sun and the sky betrayed the coming doom The peace and the lies that broke the frozen Moon They stole you away, to keep you from the light It shattered the coming day and burned into the night Believe in me, the road begins again This circle we weave, this bearing to the end And should you save me from stumbling again I’ll owe you a lifetime of being your friend
11.
Do you know any older songs about the days of snow in June? If you do, could I sing along? And I can sing in tune Can I sing about the summer Sun and not the winter Moon? Play the one about the ocean tides surging down Fifth Avenue Or when Key Biscayne disappeared under waves of clearest blue Can you sing about the motor cars and the interwebs? Can you sing about the summer Sun and not the winter Moon? Can you sing a song of hospitals and public schools? Can you sing about the libraries and tennis shoes? Tell us all about the picture shows! When did we destroy the world and when did we get lazy? Can you sing about the summer Sun and not the winter Moon? Do you know any older songs about the days of snow in June?

about

This album started out as a drumming exercise. I had just reset the studio and wanted to check sound levels, etc. and decided to record the first drum take. 120 bpm. That drum take became "Uprising" (track 1), and that lead to me recording an entire album drums and title first, music and lyrics last.

As an English major (emphasis on creative writing!), each floor of my house has hundreds of books (that's four floors in total!), so each song title came from a book title located in the Dungeons (where the Uranium Playpen is). The songs themselves have little or nothing to do with each book they were titled after.

After the first two songs, it turned into a concept album that takes place over about 500 years. Songs 1 through 10 take place over the first 100 years or so, and the epilogue, "Days of Snow in June," about 400 years after that. I enjoyed the flow so much that I am writing a story version that I will include here when it's finished. (It will be free for those who purchase the album).

Written and recorded between May 21 and June 7, 2021.

For Benjamin and Melissa.

Many thanks to Anthony and Freddy (Ricky) and Eric and Kevin, who help me create and give me great advise and listen to rough mixes and silly ideas and create stuffs with me. They are family.
