about

Written August 7, 1988. I remember the basic strumming and basic melody. Not sure if it had drums originally.

I was reading a lot of Tolkien and Herbert (Dune) around this time. Also, a bit of Norse mythology (Yggdrasil, etc). But I didn't want to borrow any thing directly from those tales. So I borrowed some lines from a public domain fantasy book: Revelations.

That John of Patmos loved his mushrooms.

lyrics

And so I saw the pure river of the water of life
Crystal clear it came out of the throne
In the street on either side
Was the tree of life (Yggdrasil)
Bearing hope and healing
for the nations, for the nations

No more curse, no more pain
No more torments of life
From the throne all hope comes and I serve
No more night, nor the Sun
Only She gives us light
And we'll reign forever and ever

Behold I come, I come quickly
Set the Watch, I come quickly in the night
Don't stand still, life is fading
Only hope survives
Behold I come, I come quickly
