FAWM 50/90 2023 song 3
written and (mostly) recorded on July 15, 2023 (the OB-6 synth lead, upper right, was recorded just after midnight; and the Tele part, upper left, was recorded this morning, as slumber overtook me after midnight)

Did you know that one of the more common side effects of a severe concussion is the development of an irrational fear of water (rivers/lakes/oceans etc. - not baths or drinking water)? Well, I've had three (1992, 1996, and 2006). So when you try to go water skiing, and suddenly the entire Upper Whitefish Bay turns kaiju... Just saying...

So my band-mate Eric gave me this vintage Crumar Toccata organ when I was visiting Wisconsin last week. It sounds AMAZING! Sure it needs work, but who doesn't?

Also, this was the second song (after Control) that I wrote and recorded yesterday (the 15th of July, 2023). We were getting severe weather warnings, and the Mayor was claiming that parts of the township would lose power as they tried to repair some downed power lines. So, I rushed to finish. It's a little sloppy, but you get the idea. :)

Harmony Arch-top, Vintage Crumar Toccata, '52 Tele, OB-6, Rickenbacker 4003s, Tama Club Jam, Eventide Space, SA Collider

lyrics

Can you hear the bells?
(Tread water in hell)
Can you feel the pull in hell?
Always drifting backwards
Waiting for the tug of the rope
Can you hear the bells?

And I pray

I can feel the pull
The terror rush inside my head
So solid to the untrained eye in hell
Blue horizon, yellow sky
The surface breathing up and down
And it makes me want to cry
I can feel the plunge

Forward and faster, I pray for solid ground
Over and under, the waves are all around me

Backwards and farther, I pray for solid ground
Lightning and thunder, the waves are crashing down

Can you hear the bells? Can you hear the bells?
Ringing louder and falling farther
Can you hear the bells?
Can you feel the bells?
Twisting to find an endless sea
A terrible dream, a newfound fear inside of me
