Does She Know that She's the Only One?

about

Ok. A bit of ham and cheese, written by me on the aforementioned April 4, 1988. This little opus was much longer, originally. For this version, I sped up the tempo, removed the intro and outro, and conveniently left out the guitar solo in the middle. That said, it's still 6 minutes and 47 seconds (or there abouts) long. I believe when we played this live it was over 8 minutes long. I believe this was also the first song I did with a live drummer. Scott Wolf, I think...

Rereading some of these early lyrics, you'd swear I was a lonely and dejected dude. I was not. I was having the time of my life learning how to play and write and record songs. Pretty much every day was music for me back then.

lyrics

Across the frozen lake he waited
Another lonely heart berated
Where is she today?
The cloudless sky retained the light
Hope in his eyes was burning bright
Where is she today?
The leafless trees were standing tall
Still he would rise above it all
A voiceless cry, her name, he'd call
There's no answer here today

Hopes would keep on rising
His love for her, surprising
Does she know that she's the only one?
Could he keep on waiting?
Is his heart complaining?
Does she know that she's the only one?

He turned away but couldn't help
That turning back held the pain that he felt
She wasn't coming today
As the Moon and stars were rising
He turned away surmising
That love would not come driving
There's no call for him today

Standing in the forest
She waited in remorse
She hoped that he would come today
Does she wait in vain?
Why did she cause him pain?
Would he come today?

Of course!
