about

Written on August 19, 1989. Tim (#1) and I were coming back from something, maybe a party (though, we were nerds, so maybe it was just a get-together), and we came across this girl (16-19 years old- I think she told us?) who was very stoned and very drunk. We took her back to our apartment and talked to her for a while to find out where she lived, and eventually she remembered she had the number of her parents written down, just in case she needed it. We called the phone number she had written on her hand (it was her parents' number). They came and got her, thanked us, and we never saw or heard from them again. This song was written shortly after they were gone. And yes, her name was Angie.

This version is much slower and moodier than the original. I may do it again closer to the original, but this mood struck me yesterday.

lyrics

Hey Angie, you were flying higher than a kite on that very first night
And you flew away
Hey Angie, don't let them get you down in this tin-can town
You can get away
Hey Angie, where have you gone? It's been so long since I've seen you
I hope you were wrong

Keep running, keep flying higher and higher
Don't let them keep you back
Keep flying high

Hey Angie, you were so young to be on the run
So you'd fly away
Hey Angie, find your way home the only way you can
Don't you run away
Hey Angie, it was a day in your life, and I hope you're alright
I hope you'll be alright
