about

Song 15, written and recorded on February 14, 2022.

My granddad was in an old-time/country band in the 1920's and 30's. He played banjolele and parlour guitar. I inherited his kit banjolele and parlour guitar a few years after his death. After getting them both in playing condition, I started to write and record with them. This song started on the banjolele. (no parlour guitar on this one).

This song is about people.

1920's kit Banjolele (most likely from Sears and Robuck), Rickenbacker 4003s bass, '52 Tele, Tama Club Jam.

lyrics

Why do I feel like I'm floating far above the atmosphere?
I see the little people gloating, laughing at me and my fears
I turn away just to ignore them, but I feel their burning eyes
Watching me drift into nothing, but I will not dignify them
Maybe I should ignore them

Can you hear their little chatter noises, clicking like a den of thieves
They brag about their victories (there is nothing but a pile of leaves)
And when they're backed into a corner, they point out where you might be wrong
Sleight of hand will show you nothing (something they had all along)

Maybe you should ignore them
Let them fade into the night
or maybe we should implore them to learn the difference between wrong and right

Down, down they go
They will drag us all below

Why should we respect their nonsense
When they won't reciprocate?
They call us names because they're angry
Expect us to accommodate them

It's really hard to ignore them
As their world begins to decay
Maybe we shouldn't ignore them
And do something about their destructive ways

Because down, down they'll go
And they'll drag us all below
