about

Written October 15, 1988 by me. I come from a mixed-race family, and that has, on occasion, caused unpleasantness from those who are not so open minded or decent. Usually, it is a person steeped in "faith" and religion. After one such incident, I wrote these lyrics.

lyrics

Can you hear my heartbeat?
Can you hear your heartbeat?
Have you heard the wind blow across the sand?
Do you know what's out there?
Do you know your fears now?
Are we all just children lost in the dark?

Have we really lost the sight?
Do we really know ourselves?
Have we grown so far apart
That we don't love our own?

So come let the wind blow
Let the people wander
Never showing feelings about their own
Let the darkness come now
Overflowing hatred
Never understanding what is our own

I have a dream, yes
That we are all together
Never really caring who is not our own
We are all just one now
Hatred far behind us
But always I awaken, how I love to dream

So just reach out and feel me
Don't look away don't close your heart
I don't have the answers, only myself now
Look real deep, yes
You might be surprised
